Trifle With Kahlua and
Belgian Chocolate

Custard Filling, Ladyfinger Cookies, Whipped Cream, and a hint of Liqueurs... Oh La La are the words with this Decadent Pick in Dessert Recipes. Great for any Special Occasion or Holiday Choice in Easy Desserts... Fabulous!

A Fantastic choice in Easy Desserts, this Trifle made with Italian Espresso dipped Ladyfingers, Kahlua, Mixed Berries, topped with Belgian Chocolate makes this favorite a decadent choice in Dessert Recipes.

This is a favorite in Dessert Recipes at our house. When I make this decadent dessert and bring it out to the table, the family dives in with spoons in hand every single time, they love it that much. I know that liqueur is called for in this Trifle recipe and if you have kids at the table I like make one of the Jello Recipes for them. What kid doesn't love Jello Desserts, the favorite seems to be the Orange Dream Jello Recipe with mandarin oranges and creamsicles!

Another suggestion for this excellent Trifle would be to try experimenting with this favorite. How about replacing the Italian Espresso with some cooled Hot Chocolate to dip those Ladyfingers in. Add some pure Vanilla Extract instead of the Kahlua and about half of a fresh Vanilla Bean, just the seeds of course and add to the Whipped Cream. Still use the Belgian Chocolate and Fresh Berries though as you can't get more decadent that that... Sounds good doesn't it, try this alternate version in a special pick in for a fantastic ending to any menu/ For the Adults, how about a pick from the Drink Recipes for a special treat and you'll have yourself one fabulous line-up!

Custard Filling
1 1/3 cups white sugar

1/4 cup water

1/4 cup white Bacardi Rum

3 tablespoons Orange Brandy

12 large egg yolks

1 cup mascarpone cheese

Whipped Cream
2 cups chilled whipping cream

2 teaspoons Amaretto

1 tablespoon Raspberry Liqueur

Ladyfingers with Italian Espresso and Kahlua
1 cup water

2 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons instant Italian espresso powder
1/4 cup Kahlua

2 packages of Ladyfingers

Chocolate and Mixed Berry Filling
1 cup Belgian Chocolate, milk, finely shaved or chopped

2 cups frozen mixed berries (raspberries, blackberries, strawberries)

Optional Topping
1/2 cup English Toffee Pieces

1/4 cup Pecans, chopped

In metal mixing bowl, whisk together 1 1/3 cups sugar, 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup rum, 3 tablespoons brandy and egg yolks

Set bowl over saucepan of simmering water (do not allow bottom of bowl to touch water).

Whisk constantly until mixture thickens and candy thermometer inserted into mixture registers 140°F for 3 minutes, about 5 minutes total.

Remove bowl from over water. Whisk mascarpone, 1/2 cup at a time, into warm custard until blended.

Chill large metal bowl and beaters from mixer. When chilled, beat whipping cream, Amaretto and Raspberry Liqueur until whipping cream holds stiff peaks.

Fold in mascarpone custard mixture.

Bring 1 cup water to simmer in small saucepan. Remove from heat. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and espresso powder and stir to dissolve. Mix in Kahlua.

Submerge ladyfinger cookies one at a time in espresso mixture, turning to coat twice and shake excess liquid back into saucepan.

Place dipped biscuits around bottom of 14-cup trifle dish or large bowl, biscuits may break, that is perfectly OK.

Spoon 1/3 of mascarpone custard mixture over ladyfingers, spreading to cover.

Sprinkle 1/3 of mixed frozen berries over top of mascarpone custard mixture.

Sprinkle 1/3 of finely chopped milk belgian chocolate over top of mixed berries.

Repeat with more ladyfinger dipped into espresso mixture, mascarpone custard mixture, mixed berries and belgian chocolate 2 more layers each, ending with belgian chocolate on the top.

Sprinkle top with english toffee bits or pecans if desired.

Cover and chill for at least 4 - 6 hours or over night.

Makes about 12 - 16 servings.
